This is the galvanised steel guard we stock as standard. It can be used to create a guard of 1.6m to 2m high by raising the guard off the ground from the start or as the leader grows out of the top. For this reason we recommend fitting a vole guard, tree spiral or a plastic tree tube minimum 0.6m on the tree to prevent damage from rabbits, hares and to prevent cattle from reaching the tree with their tongues and pulling it out. We believe that there is an advantage in fitting a 1.2m tree tube as it will help the leader grow out straight without putting out lateral shoots, but time will tell.

Wire ties

We consider these to be essential if you are using re-bars. Making your own will not be cost/time effective. We only offer two sizes:

  • 6mm ties for tying the guard to itself: 2.8p* + VAT
  • 10mm ties for fixing guard to rebars: 3p* + VAT

This is the distance between the two parallel wires. 6mm ties are used to tie the guards to themselves when formed in the cactus bender and the 10mm ties are used to tie the guards to the re-bars.

An essential tool if you are using rebars. This tool is designed to make inserting the rebars easy using a lump hammer. You can hammer from the side which is essential when trying to insert 2m rebars, perhaps not so when using 1.5m rebars depending on how tall you are.
